How does Vitamin B8 work?

Vitamin B8 belongs to the B group of vitamins The group consists of 8 vitamins and each has a different effect.

Vitamin B8 is a water soluble vitamin and is also called biotin. This vitamin is important for releasing energy from the diet. In fact, it participates in the process of formation and breaking down of carbohydrates and proteins, and the production of fatty acids. Vitamin B8 is great for hair and skin.

Vitamin B8 in the diet

Some of the important food sources of vitamin B8 are peanuts, nuts, eggs, soy and milk. Vitamin B8 is water-soluble. Therefore vegetables that contain this vitamin should be cooked in as little water as possible and should not be cut into small pieces.

Lack of Vitamin B8

This vitamin is found in many foods, so any deficiencies are extremely rare. Where they exist, the symptoms include skin changes, glossitis, decreased appetite, fatigue, muscle aches and depression.

Excess Vitamin B8

Adverse effects of a high intake of vitamin B8 are few or non-existent.

If you have recently undergone the positioning of a gastric band or sleeve it is essential to take a quantity of vitamin B8 of between 50 and 100 milligrams per day. This value corresponds to 100-200% of the Recommended Daily Allowance.
